Benha National University Launches "Awareness" Initiative to Enhance Community Awareness on Cultural, Health, and Awareness Issues

Benha National University has launched the "Awareness" Initiative aimed at increasing community awareness of various cultural, social, health, and awareness issues, contributing to the development of an informed society capable of facing contemporary challenges. This initiative is in collaboration with Hayat Karima Foundation and involves the participation of National Council for Women, Kalyobiya Education Directorate, and Anti-Addiction and Treatment Fund.

Overview of the Initiative:

The inaugural seminar dedicated to launching the "Awareness" Initiative featured several awareness lectures. Among the speakers:

  • Major Wael Shawqi, External Relations and International Advisor at Hayat Karima Foundation, delivered a lecture on the Palestinian issue and Egypt's supportive role.
  • Hind Galal, Vice President of Social Empowerment at Hayat Karima Foundation, presented an introductory lecture on the foundation's role.
  • Sherin Barakat, Chair of the National Council for Women in Kalyobiya, provided an overview of the council's services.
  • Rania Al-Kilani, Professor of Cultural Sociology, discussed awareness development and its reflection on community development.
  • The seminar also included an awareness presentation from the Anti-Addiction and Treatment Fund, delivered by  Marwa Sabry, a researcher and coordinator of preventive programs in Kalyobiya.
  • Mohamed Mustafa, an expert in forensic medicine and toxicology, lectured on the dangers of substance abuse and addiction to individuals and society.

Prof. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University, emphasized the university's commitment to launching community initiatives, as they play a pivotal role in achieving sustainable development and enhancing social cohesion. He stated that the university's role extends beyond academic education to include fostering values and raising awareness among students and the community as a whole. The "Awareness" Initiative aims to serve as a guiding light for education and innovation.

Prof. Samir added that the "Awareness" Initiative is one of the university's means to encourage its members to participate in solving community problems, transforming the audience from mere recipients to contributors to change. This fosters a spirit of shared responsibility and solidarity among community members.

Details of the Initiative:

Prof. Mahmoud Shakl, Vice President for Employment, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship, mentioned that the initiative includes five awareness campaigns spanning five weeks, with each week focusing on a specific topic reflecting community needs and priorities. The campaigns will address various themes, including artistic and cultural topics, health awareness, addiction prevention, women's rights, the importance of digital transformation, and the needs and rights of people with disabilities.

He concluded that the community service sector is one of the university's core focuses, aiming to create a positive impact through awareness and development projects that address environmental issues and respond to community needs. The "Awareness" Initiative represents a new step in the journey toward building a more informed and cohesive society, inviting all—students, faculty members, and partners—to contribute their ideas and creativity to ensure the success of this initiative.
