Benha National University Celebrates Orphan’s Day in a Humanitarian Initiative to Promote Social Solidarity

Under the patronage of Prof. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University, the University organized a special celebration marking Orphan’s Day as part of its ongoing commitment to community engagement, support for vulnerable groups, and the promotion of humanitarian values and social solidarity.

The event was attended by Prof. Mahmoud Shakal, Vice President for Employment, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, together with representatives of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Qalyubia Governorate, the Obour Educational Administration, the Family and Childhood Administration, members of the House of Representatives, representatives of non-governmental organizations and civil society institutions, and officials from residential care institutions across Qalyubia Governorate.

Prof. Tamer Samir emphasized that Orphan’s Day is among the University’s most significant humanitarian initiatives, reflecting its deep commitment to its social responsibility. He noted that caring for orphaned children and providing them with psychological and moral support is both a national and humanitarian obligation. He further underscored the University’s dedication to organizing initiatives that foster compassion and solidarity while encouraging students to engage actively in community service.

He added that student participation in such initiatives plays a vital role in cultivating teamwork and volunteerism, strengthening personal and leadership skills, and deepening students’ sense of empathy and social awareness. These experiences, he noted, enable students to better understand their role within society, reinforce their sense of civic responsibility, and contribute to the development of a conscious and proactive generation capable of creating a positive and lasting impact in their communities.

Prof. Mahmoud Shakal stated that these initiatives form an integral part of the University’s strategy to develop students not only academically, but also in their social and humanitarian capacities. He affirmed that students’ involvement in organizing such activities contributes to preparing responsible and socially engaged graduates who are equipped to serve their communities effectively.

The celebration was marked by a joyful and uplifting atmosphere and featured a wide range of recreational and artistic activities, in addition to interactive musical performances that brought happiness to the participating children. Benha National University students played an active role throughout the event, engaging warmly with the children and helping create memorable moments of joy.

The event also included an interactive discussion session with participating stakeholders, during which a number of practical recommendations were presented to enhance mechanisms for supporting and caring for orphaned children. The discussions focused on expanding educational opportunities, strengthening social inclusion, and maximizing the long-term impact of institutional efforts dedicated to their empowerment and well-being.
