Benha National University Commemorates Sinai Liberation Day and Highlights the Role of Youth in Advancing Egypt’s Development Journey

Benha National University organized a special celebration to commemorate Sinai Liberation Day, under the patronage of Prof. Tamer Samir, President of the University, and Prof. Hussein El-Maghraby, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and under the supervision of Prof. Ghada El-Mosallamy, Director of Programs, Faculty of Visual Arts and Design. The event was held as part of the University’s commitment to strengthening national identity and deepening students’ awareness of Egypt’s history and national achievements.

Major General Pilot Staff Prof. Hisham El-Halaby delivered an insightful educational lecture in the presence of university leaders, program directors, faculty members, and students. He reviewed the key stages of Sinai’s liberation, from the occupation of the peninsula and the Armed Forces’ heroism in the October 1973 War to the diplomatic negotiations that culminated in the full restoration of Egyptian territory.

Prof. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University, described 25 April as a defining milestone in Egypt’s modern history, symbolizing the triumph of national resolve through the combined strength of military sacrifice and diplomatic wisdom. He noted that the major development projects underway in Sinai reflect the state’s vision for comprehensive and sustainable development and emphasized that young people remain the cornerstone of Egypt’s continued progress.

Prof. Tamer Samir added that this national occasion serves as a powerful source of inspiration for students and reaffirmed that nation-building is achieved through knowledge, dedication, and purposeful work.

Major General Pilot Staff Prof. Hisham El-Halaby also reviewed the national efforts that led to Sinai’s liberation and highlighted the large-scale development projects currently transforming the peninsula. He stressed that these achievements are the result of steadfast national resolve and that safeguarding Sinai is no less important than liberating it, particularly as ongoing development initiatives continue to advance security, stability, and prosperity.

Major General El-Halaby then engaged with students during an interactive discussion and responded in detail to their questions, offering further historical and strategic insights and underscoring the importance of youth awareness and active participation in protecting the nation and contributing to its development.

The event concluded with a tribute to the martyrs of the Armed Forces and Police, who gave their lives in defense of the homeland. Benha National University reaffirmed its enduring commitment to its educational and awareness-raising mission and to preparing future generations capable of advancing Egypt’s development and safeguarding its national achievements.
