Benha National University has been ranked for the first time in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (THE Impact Rankings 2026), marking a significant milestone in the University's international recognition for its contribution to sustainable development.
The University was placed within the 1001–1500 global band, ranked first among Egyptian national universities included in the ranking, and secured 35th place nationally among the 45 Egyptian universities evaluated in this year's edition.
Prof. Gamal El Saeed, Chair of Benha National University's Board of Trustees, described the achievement as a reflection of the University's commitment to institutional excellence and the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in alignment with Egypt Vision 2030 and the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research.
He noted that Benha National University's leading position among participating national universities demonstrates the effectiveness of the strategic vision adopted since its establishment and the University's sustained efforts to embed the principles of sustainability, innovation, and sound governance across its academic and institutional activities.
Prof. El Saeed further emphasized that the achievement reflects the strategic and executive leadership's continued focus on internationalization and global engagement as key pillars of the University's long-term development. He highlighted the University's commitment to expanding academic and research partnerships with leading institutions worldwide to promote knowledge exchange, strengthen educational and research outcomes, and enhance the quality of its academic offerings.
He added that participation in internationally recognized rankings serves as an important indicator of institutional performance and alignment with global standards, particularly for a young university. He described the ranking as a strong incentive to further advance the University's standing in international and regional rankings while expanding strategic partnerships that reinforce its academic reputation both regionally and internationally.
Prof. El Saeed also congratulated the University's faculty, staff, and students for their contributions to this achievement and reaffirmed the University's commitment to strengthening its competitiveness among leading higher education institutions.
Prof. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University, explained that the THE Impact Rankings is one of the world's leading university rankings, published annually by Times Higher Education, and assesses universities based on their contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through education, research, knowledge transfer, and sustainable institutional practices.
He noted that the ranking serves as a global benchmark for measuring universities' societal impact and their commitment to advancing sustainable development through policies, initiatives, and institutional performance. The 2026 edition included more than 1,646 universities from 116 countries and territories, all evaluated against a comprehensive set of indicators linked to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Prof. Samir stated that Benha National University's performance across multiple SDGs reflects the successful integration of sustainability principles into its institutional strategy and underscores its role as a modern academic institution contributing to sustainable development and the growth of a knowledge based economy.
He added that the results also demonstrate the effectiveness of the University's policies in education, research, and community engagement, in line with internationally recognized best practices.
Prof. Samir affirmed that the University will continue to advance its academic, research, and community engagement missions through a strategic approach centered on quality, innovation, and sustainability, while strengthening its presence in international and regional rankings and expanding its contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030.
