As part of its strategy to strengthen partnerships with leading national research institutions and advance applied research and innovation, Benha National University has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the National Water Research Center (NWRC).
The agreement was signed at the Center's headquarters in El-Qanater El-Khayriya by Prof. Tamer Samir Mahmoud, President of Benha National University, and Prof. Sherif Mohamady El-Sayed, President of the National Water Research Center. It establishes a framework for collaboration in scientific research, innovation, professional training, technical consultancy, and capacity building, with the aim of preparing highly qualified professionals capable of contributing to national priorities, particularly in the water resources sector.
Prof. Tamer Samir emphasized that Benha National University is committed to integrating education with applied scientific research while building strategic partnerships with distinguished national centers of expertise. He described the collaboration with the National Water Research Center as a strategic milestone for the University, highlighting not only the Center's advanced scientific and research capabilities but also its role as one of Egypt's leading national research institutions dedicated to identifying the country's most pressing challenges, studying them through rigorous scientific methodologies, and developing evidence-based solutions and recommendations that support national projects and informed decision-making.
He added that collaborating with institutions working at the forefront of national priorities and possessing the expertise to diagnose complex challenges and develop scientific solutions is essential to building knowledge-producing universities capable of shaping the future. He further noted that the University is committed to providing its students and researchers with direct exposure to real-world challenges, transforming research ideas into practical applications that serve society, and reinforcing the University's role as an active partner in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030.
Prof. Sherif Mohamady emphasized that the cooperation agreement with Benha National University marks an important step toward maximizing the scientific and research capabilities of both institutions while expanding collaboration on research and applied projects that address Egypt's national priorities. He noted that the National Water Research Center is committed to building effective partnerships with Egyptian universities to prepare highly qualified researchers capable of addressing future challenges and translating research outcomes into practical solutions that support the country's efforts to strengthen water security and achieve sustainable development.
The signing ceremony was attended by:
- Prof. Mahmoud El-Refaiy, Director of the Engineering Programs
- Prof. Mohamed Anwar, Director of the Continuing Education Center
- Prof. Samah Samir, Supervisor of the Production Workshops
Representing the National Water Research Center were:
- Prof. Ayman El-Saady, Vice President for the Research Plan
- Prof. El-Sayed Doweidar, Director of the Hydraulics Research Institute
- Prof. Abd ElAzim Mohamed, Emeritus Professor at the Hydraulics Research Institute and the official liaison and focal point between the National Water Research Center and Benha National University
The ceremony was also attended by a number of the Center's senior officials and researchers.
The visit began with an official meeting, followed by a presentation delivered by Prof. Ayman El-Saady, Vice President for the Research Plan, who highlighted the Center's scientific and research capabilities, its specialized research institutes, and its advanced central laboratories. He also outlined the Center's role as the research arm of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, responsible for conducting scientific studies and research that support water resources management and evidence-informed decision-making. The presentation further showcased the Center's contributions to major national projects and explored future opportunities for collaboration with Benha National University in research, training, and innovation.
Following the presentation, the two institutions signed the cooperation agreement, which provides a framework for implementing joint research projects, promoting the exchange of scientific and academic expertise, co-supervising postgraduate research, and organizing conferences, seminars, workshops, and professional training programs. The agreement also creates practical training opportunities for Benha National University students within the Center's research institutes, strengthening their scientific and professional competencies while fostering stronger connections between academic research, real-world challenges, and national development priorities.
