From the Lecture Theatre to Clinical Practice: Veterinary Medicine Students Visit Derbala Horse Hospital

Under the patronage of Prof. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University, and as part of the University’s commitment to integrating academic learning with practical application and equipping students with the clinical and field-based skills required for professional practice, students of the Veterinary Medicine Programme undertook a scientific visit to Derbala Horse Hospital.

The visit provided students with first-hand exposure to professional practices and techniques in equine medicine, surgery, and reproduction, allowing them to deepen their understanding of how the knowledge acquired in the classroom is applied in a real clinical setting.

Prof. Hussein El-Maghraby, Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasised the importance of field visits and practical training in strengthening the applied dimension of students’ education and connecting academic learning with contemporary professional practice. He noted that the University is committed to providing high-quality training opportunities that reflect the requirements of the labour market and enable students to gain meaningful hands-on experience.

Students received practical training and observed the diagnosis and treatment of clinical cases in the hospital’s clinics and operating theatres, gaining valuable insight into the procedures and practices involved in the clinical management of equine cases.

Prof. Ahmed Hassan, Director of the Veterinary Medicine Programme at Benha National University, noted that such visits and practical training opportunities play an important role in preparing qualified veterinary professionals with strong diagnostic and surgical skills. He emphasised the Programme’s commitment to linking academic content with current professional practice, thereby strengthening students’ readiness for the labour market in Egypt and internationally.

The visit forms part of Benha National University’s broader strategy to provide an integrated educational experience that brings together academic knowledge, practical training, and field-based learning, equipping graduates with the skills and professional experience needed to compete successfully in the labour market.
