Under the patronage of Prof. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University, and Prof. Hussein El-Maghraby, Vice President for Academic Affairs, three Benha National University students have returned to Egypt after successfully completing their participation in a summer research training programme at the University of Louisville in the United States. The three-month programme ran from 25 June through the end of September 2026 as part of the academic and research collaboration between the two universities.
The participating students were Youssef Abdel Salam Abdel Aleem, a student at the Faculty of Dentistry; Rowan Ahmed Salah, a student at the Faculty of Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering Programme; and Basant Hany El-Mesalmy, a student at the Faculty of Human Medicine. The programme provided the students with an international academic and research experience at the University of Louisville, allowing them to gain first-hand exposure to research methodologies and contemporary applications within their respective fields.
Throughout the programme, the students took part in a range of research activities and projects and received academic guidance and supervision from faculty members and researchers at the University of Louisville. The programme was supervised by Prof. Ayman El-Baz, Chair of the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Louisville, alongside a number of the University’s researchers and academic supervisors. The experience contributed to strengthening the students’ research and practical skills and broadening their experience within an international academic environment.
Prof. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University, said that the participation of the University’s students in international research and training programmes reflects the University’s commitment to providing outstanding students with valuable opportunities to engage with leading academic and research environments worldwide. Such opportunities, he noted, contribute to developing their academic and practical capabilities while opening broader avenues for learning, research and innovation.
Prof. Hussein El-Maghraby, Vice President for Academic Affairs, highlighted the importance of such international experiences in developing students’ skills and strengthening their research capabilities. He noted that training opportunities at international universities enable students to engage directly with advanced academic and research environments, supporting the University’s efforts to equip them to contribute effectively to research and innovation.
Prof. Ayman El-Baz, Chair of the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Louisville and the programme’s academic supervisor, praised the performance of the participating Egyptian students. He emphasised the value of the programme in providing students with international research experience, familiarising them with the research environment at the University of Louisville, and enabling them to develop practical expertise through involvement in research projects and engagement with faculty members and researchers.
The students’ participation forms part of Benha National University’s broader efforts to strengthen international collaboration in education and research and to provide its students with high-quality training and research opportunities.
