International Day of Older Persons | 1 October

Each year on 1 October, the world marks the International Day of Older Persons, recognising the generations whose contributions, experience and wisdom form an enduring part of the social fabric and human heritage of our communities.

In Egypt, older people remain an integral part of society. Over the course of their lives, they have contributed to the strength of their families, communities and country, while serving as a source of experience, wisdom and values that continue to be passed from one generation to the next.

Benha National University recognises the importance of fostering a culture of respect for older people and appreciation of their contributions, while strengthening understanding and connections between generations. Such intergenerational bonds help build a more aware and cohesive society, one that upholds every person’s dignity and place at every stage of life.

On the International Day of Older Persons, we celebrate the generations whose contributions have helped shape the world we live in today. We reaffirm that honouring their contributions and showing them the respect they deserve is a shared human and social responsibility, one that is carried forward from one generation to the next.
