Prof. Gamal El Saeed, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Benha National University, formally inaugurated a range of new medical and educational facilities at the University’s campus in Obour City. The inauguration marks a further stage in the University’s plans to develop its infrastructure, strengthen its teaching and training capabilities, and broaden the provision of medical services to the public.
The ceremony was attended by Prof. Nasser El Gizawy, President of Benha University; Prof. Soheir Sharawy, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Benha National University; Prof. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University; Eng. Mahmoud Morad, Head of the New Obour City Authority; members of the University’s Board of Trustees; and the University’s academic and administrative leaders.
The newly inaugurated facilities include an Outpatient Clinics Complex comprising 12 specialist medical clinics across a range of disciplines, six physiotherapy clinics and two dental clinics. The complex is also equipped with an X-ray and ultrasound imaging centre, a fully equipped medical laboratory and a pharmacy, enabling the provision of a range of medical and treatment services to the public.
The facilities further include four practical training rooms for students in the medical faculties, each equipped with 25 chairs, where students receive practical training under specialist supervision. In addition, two dental training clinics, equipped with 34 dental chairs, and 10 physiotherapy clinics have been established within the University.
The inauguration also included the University’s electronic examination centre, equipped with 350 computers to support the continued development of its examination and digital assessment systems. Eight new lecture theatres were also inaugurated, each with a capacity ranging from 60 to 180 students. Manufactured and fully equipped in the University’s production engineering workshops, the lecture theatres demonstrate how the University is harnessing its in house technical and engineering capabilities to support teaching and learning.
A further six teaching laboratories and specialist museums were inaugurated. These comprise a Renewable Energy Laboratory, an Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Laboratory, a Rocks and Minerals Museum, a Mineral and Rock Optics Laboratory, and chemistry and physics laboratories. Collectively, these facilities offer students enhanced opportunities for scientific experimentation, practical training and skills development.
Prof. Gamal El Saeed stated that the inauguration represented an important milestone in Benha National University’s development, reflecting its commitment to establishing an integrated university environment that brings together high quality academic education, practical application, scientific research and community service.
He further noted that the new medical clinics were the first of their kind among Egypt’s national universities. They are intended to integrate medical education and practical training for students with the delivery of high quality healthcare services to residents of Obour City and surrounding communities. This approach, he added, supports the state’s efforts to develop higher education and improve the quality of healthcare services.
Prof. Soheir Shaarawy emphasised that the expansion of the University’s medical and educational facilities reflected its commitment to investing in its capabilities and providing a university environment responsive to scientific and technological advances. She highlighted the role of these integrated facilities in enhancing the quality of education and training, developing students’ capabilities, and preparing graduates to meet the evolving requirements of the labour market.
Prof. Tamer Samir affirmed that the University was pursuing a vision for a modern model of higher education founded on the integration of academic study and practical training, equipping students to compete in the labour market.
He explained that the new facilities represented a significant enhancement of the University’s existing resources. The lecture theatres and electronic examination centre are expected to contribute to the development of teaching and assessment, while the teaching laboratories will support students in strengthening their practical skills and capacity for innovation. The medical facilities, in turn, will provide practical training opportunities for students in medical disciplines alongside the delivery of healthcare services to the local community.
