Benha National University Sustainability Policy
Benha National University is a fourth-generation university striving to achieve the principles of comprehensive sustainable development and balanced regional development, which rely on three dimensions: the economic dimension, the social dimension, and the environmental dimension. In line with the second edition of Egypt's Vision 2030, which addresses the changes in the local, regional, and global contexts, we aim to inspire a comprehensive approach that enhances the quality of life for Egyptian citizens and improves their living standards across various aspects of life by promoting investment in people, building their creative capacities, and encouraging knowledge, innovation, and scientific research in all fields, especially those concerned with addressing the effects of climate change and sustaining an integrated ecosystem that enhances resilience and the ability to face natural risks, while focusing on smart governance, administrative reform, and establishing principles of integrity and transparency.
Goal 1: Improving the Quality of Life for Egyptian Citizens
At Benha National University, we strive to achieve this goal by reducing poverty in all its forms, eradicating hunger, providing an integrated social protection system, ensuring quality education and health services, providing basic services, improving infrastructure, enhancing urban aesthetics, enriching cultural life, and developing digital infrastructure:
- Allocating a package of scholarships for academically, athletically, artistically, and culturally outstanding students.
- Providing social scholarships for students who have lost their guardians and for the children of martyrs.
- Allocating social scholarships for individuals with disabilities.
- Contracting with a comprehensive medical system (Egypt Insurance - Health Care) to treat students, College members, and administrative staff.
- Focusing on infrastructure and construction.
- Establishing an advanced digital technology infrastructure.
Goal 2: Justice, Social Inclusion, and Participation
Benha National University aims to achieve justice by ensuring equality in rights and opportunities, promoting financial inclusion, empowering women and youth, supporting the most needy groups, and enhancing the participation of all groups in development, while fostering loyalty and belonging to the Egyptian identity through:
- Establishing fair regulations for dealing with male and female students through the university student code of ethics.
- Setting social standards and civilized behaviors to ensure the activation of collective work values through the code of conduct for administrative staff.
- Activating the code of ethics for faculty members.
- Establishing fixed financial and administrative rules approved by the Board of Trustees to ensure fairness in evaluation and activate accountability through financial and administrative inclusion.
- Encouraging female students to integrate with male students in teamwork within lecture halls, laboratories, and student activities.
- Ensuring gender equality in all rights and duties.
- Empowering women for leadership through participation in the National Training Academy's programs, "Women Lead in the Provinces."
- Promoting values and principles that enhance loyalty and belonging among students and staff at the university.
Goal 3: Competitive and Diverse Economy
The university seeks to apply the concepts of knowledge economy, digital transformation mechanisms, and increase the competitiveness of graduates in line with decent work requirements, improve the business environment, and promote a culture of entrepreneurship. It also aims to achieve financial inclusion and integrate environmental and social dimensions into economic development through:
- Incorporating environmental aspects, human rights, and anti-corruption into the curricula of all colleges.
- Supporting innovative and talented students both morally and materially.
- Appointing a Vice President for Employment, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship within the academic structure.
- Adopting advanced environmental programs that familiarize students with new trends and prepare them for future jobs.
- Utilizing the latest technological programs for managing educational affairs and student affairs (SIS), financial and administrative systems (ERP), archiving, and admission policies.
Goal 4: Knowledge, Innovation, and Scientific Research
Benha National University supports scientific research and innovation mechanisms by developing faculty members' capabilities, fostering their creative potential, encouraging innovation, spreading its culture, and linking scientific research to education and development as follows:
- Allocating financial rewards for researchers who publish in Q1 and Q2 international journals.
- Granting researchers time off to conduct their applied research.
Goal 5: Integrated and Sustainable Ecosystem
The university aims to maintain both development and the environment through the prudent use of resources, addressing the impacts of climate change, enhancing the adaptability of ecosystems, and increasing reliance on renewable energy while adopting sustainable consumption and production patterns through:
- Providing electric vehicles for transportation within the university.
- Establishing a crisis and disaster management unit involving students.
- Using solar energy panels.
- Implementing occupational safety and health standards.
Goal 6: Governance of State Institutions and Society
Governance of state institutions and society ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of official state agencies, private sector institutions, and civil society. Therefore, Egypt's vision for the future places governance and adherence to laws, rules, and procedures under the rule of law within an institutional framework as a necessity for achieving transparency, accountability, and combating corruption.
Goal 7: Egyptian Peace and Security
The state prioritizes security in its comprehensive sense at both national and regional levels as a necessity for achieving and maintaining sustainable development. This includes ensuring food and water security, sustainable energy security, political, economic, social, and environmental stability, cyber security, securing Egyptian borders, and combating terrorism and organized crime.
Goal 8: Enhancing Egyptian Leadership
The national agenda has ensured the linkage of its developmental goals with international objectives on one hand and the regional agenda on the other, particularly the Africa 2063 agenda. After successfully restoring stability, enhancing Egypt's status and leadership at both regional and international levels has become essential for advancing comprehensive development. This is achieved through various mechanisms, including supporting regional and international partnerships.
